futuREady 2026: Why Alpine is fading from Renault’s story

Some announcements make noise, while others make you reread a sentence just to make sure you did not miss anything. futuREady clearly belongs to the second category. Renault Group lays out a plan there that is square, almost surgical, as if to prove it controls every turn of a market that has become about as welcoming as a rain-soaked rally pass.

Very polished. Very serious. Very corporate.

Alpine, a sports brand in a story without sport

In the middle of this display of control, one detail catches the eye. A detail that enthusiasts — those who know what Dieppe represents — spot immediately: Alpine’s place in this story, suddenly reduced to the bare minimum, almost to the anecdotal. And that is where something changes, not in the strategy, but in the tone.

Because the Alpine in question here is not the one from glossy brochures. It is the one that lives in the paddock, that smells of hot fuel, that won rallies when nobody believed it could, that held its own in endurance racing, that took on F1 with more courage than means. A brand that built its identity on one simple rule: you do not cheat with competition.

And since we are talking about identity, it is worth recalling how it survived. Alpine’s modern rebirth was not just an industrial project: it was driven by an unlikely alliance between strategy and loyalty. Yes, the revival was decided in offices — Carlos Tavares, Carlos Ghosn, Bernard Ollivier, Michael van der Sande. But it was also made possible by those who never let the flame go out: the teams in Dieppe, the engineers, the technicians, the drivers… and the AAA, the Anciens d’Alpine, guardians of know-how and memory. Without them, Alpine would have remained a memory. Thanks to them, it became a brand again.

Under Renaulution, that Alpine had found the spotlight again. It stood for something. It lifted the group upward. It embraced its DNA: “made by racers”. Not “made by powerpoints”. The tone of the group and the tone of the brand echoed one another. You understood where Alpine was going, and why it was going there.

And then futuREady arrives. Alpine appears there… in three lines. Not a word about rallying. Not a line about WEC. Not a hint of F1. Nothing about what made the brand distinctive in the collective narrative. Silence is not an oversight: it is a change in tone. And a change that raises questions.

All the more so because at the very same time, Alpine publishes its own press release — and suddenly, everything becomes clearer.

The brand lays out an impressive momentum: 10,970 sales, triple-digit growth, a range expanded from 1 to 3 models, 170 Alpine Stores, Alpine Ateliers in Barcelona and Paris, with Milan and London to follow, La Piste Bleue at Le Mans, and above all the Alpine Performance Platform (APP) with 800 V batteries, millisecond torque vectoring, dual rear motors, ADM ECU, and an F1-inspired driving position.

Dieppe remains the cradle. Jean Rédélé has not been forgotten. Philippe Krief promises an electric A110 capable of “surpassing the best combustion sports cars”.

In short: Alpine moves forward. Alpine commits. Alpine is building its future.

And that is precisely where the dissonance appears: why does Renault Group say nothing about all this in futuREady? Why this difference in tone between a brand that asserts its identity and a group that no longer places it within its own narrative?

Alpine carries on. The models are coming. The limited editions too. APP promises a great deal. The network is expanding. The brand lives, moves, breathes. But one question remains — and it deserves to be asked plainly:

How can a sports brand remain itself if its own group no longer speaks about sport?

An Alpine that no longer draws on rallying, WEC or F1 is no longer quite Alpine. It becomes a sports brand among others. A good sports brand, no doubt. But a sports brand without roots. And for a marque born in the bends, that is a risk.

futuREady does not condemn Alpine. It shifts it. It moves forward, but it no longer embodies. It exists, but it no longer carries the story.

That is the real question — and it is one for enthusiasts and decision-makers alike: will Alpine manage to remain Alpine within a group that is changing rhythm, or will it too have to learn how to speak in powerpoints?

It is up to them to prove it. It is up to us to stay alert.
